Earlier this Spring when the band was opening up for Further Seems Forever in Boston, we met up with a gentleman named Robert Ribera and shot some video of us playing a couple acoustic versions of songs: Two from “It’s All Crazy!” and one from “Brother, Sister.” If you have time check’em out. We are back in Philadelphia for only a night…

Joe Jackson’s “Stepping Out” has been on repeat since I woke up today.  Like a long lost dream it came back to me all at once.  Totally jamming.

Even though we have only been on the road for a week or so, with all the bus problems and floor crashing, this city was a sight for sore eyes; even if I did drop my post show buffalo chicken sandwich which was slathered with toppings on the back floor of my dads van (which he just cleaned).  My old man makes the haul, he told Beaver last night that he has seen over forty mewithoutYou shows, that’s dedication right there.

Speaking of dedication…

Who’d of thought Akron Ohio’s crowd could rival anybody else in the states?  Not me.  Though I love them dearly because they always come out in droves, much to my surprise, the audience tonight steered the vibe of the show, made it fun to be on a stage and play music.  Thank you Akron.  You were all wonderful.  We did two new songs tonight, one was a live debut and you know, technical problems aside, it sounded rad and overall the show was awesome.  Sometimes I feel like the luckiest dude alive.  Even post show, getting to say hi and talk to some awesome dudes and gals, it is a pleasure and it means the world when people just want to say hi and what’s up.  Tonight I was wolfing out and  tried to explain to people that I have a rush from playing that takes about an hour to settle after the show, my adrenalin is through the roof for serious, I feel like a maniac and like I want to strangle a dude even though I am not really that violent.  So, if you ever catch me after the show and I am finicky and jumpy and looking around and acting like a wild man, it’s the post show stress coming down.  For the most part, this only happens if the show is totally physical and righteous. I get so excited!

The end of the first week wrapped up in the best of spirits.  We celebrated by taking a dip in a tepid pool, goggles and all, fetching the blue marble in the deep end.  It was nice to be together in the early evenings hot sun.

After four days, Greg & I were able to complete the basic tracking of the drums and bass, accompanied by Aaron and Mike playing scratch tracks.  Some of their parts may be keep-a-ble.  The tones that we have been getting are thick, right now, I have a mix down of what we did, I’d say it is at about 30% done and it sounds awesome.  I couldn’t be happier with the performance and sound keeping.  There will be so much layering that it is hard to contain my excitement of what the finished product will be.  After being beat up by two songs, we went in fresh, large iced coffees in hand and knocked it out quick.  We were able to find the zone and just live in it on the fourth day, making for a speedy ending.  In no way is it rushed or forced, it was recorded at the pace I feel most comfortable with.  If something is going good, just keep the tape rolling.
