The end of the first week wrapped up in the best of spirits. We celebrated by taking a dip in a tepid pool, goggles and all, fetching the blue marble in the deep end. It was nice to be together in the early evenings hot sun.
After four days, Greg & I were able to complete the basic tracking of the drums and bass, accompanied by Aaron and Mike playing scratch tracks. Some of their parts may be keep-a-ble. The tones that we have been getting are thick, right now, I have a mix down of what we did, I’d say it is at about 30% done and it sounds awesome. I couldn’t be happier with the performance and sound keeping. There will be so much layering that it is hard to contain my excitement of what the finished product will be. After being beat up by two songs, we went in fresh, large iced coffees in hand and knocked it out quick. We were able to find the zone and just live in it on the fourth day, making for a speedy ending. In no way is it rushed or forced, it was recorded at the pace I feel most comfortable with. If something is going good, just keep the tape rolling. (more…)
So yesterday I said I was excited about recording “Harry’s College Fund”…one of you perceptively replied about it being a moneymaking track due to it’s title, the humor was noted. Harry is of course the superstar of the house, the famed young one, one of the most beautiful kids I have ever seen, my pal and house mate and yes, mama has dreams of him going to college one day or whatever form of higher education seems appealing to him. I am sure when he is of age, things will look a lot differently, can the current model keep running as it is? Who knows, it is of minor importance, was just giving a little shout out and insight to the different names you will read in here.
Let me say this. about the joke song title… (more…)
This is my first time doing this so go easy on me!
It’s a hot summer night in Philly and we just arrived home from day 2 of tracking our fifth record which a title has yet to be determined. So what’s new with you? Everything well? Enchanting? Disruptive? Stressed? Summer-ery?
About this time of the year we are usually heading through the mid west and out to California, there and back again or so it has been for the past ten years….this summer we decided to “band” together to write and record, keeping our business around the Philadelphia area. It is certainly strange not rolling through cornfields with the window down or getting late night Taco Cabana (I was gonna say In-N-Out Burger, felt I needed to represent Texas as sorely missed spots in there) but this is the path we have chosen and more more each day I realize how grateful I am for being able to do what I do-set up a drum kit, slip into an alternate realm and play it for people in different parts of the country/world. If making records is a “cake” then touring and meeting people is the icing, sprankles, (yes, sprankles), hot fudge, whip cre3m, spanish nuts and oreo crumbles that rest on top and contained within. It has delivered the most wonderful experiences of my life, all due to the supporters that have shown up tried and true through thick and thin to share in a musical experience. All of this hit me while driving over the Walt Whitman Bridge and wondering what it would be like to be in a band rolling up from somewhere else, heading into Philly; it is always exciting when you have been traveling for hours to see a city on the horizon, coming here is homecoming and I usually know what to expect. The unexpected is what drives you to keep moving. (more…)
